Automatic Coupling Welding Machine
An automatic machine for consistent welding of couplings and nozzles to metal parts and vessels. Controlled torch motion and welding settings improve production speed and reduce variation from manual welding.
Talk to an engineerFull description
The automatic coupling welding machine is a rotary welding system designed for fast, consistent welding on tanks and shells produced in high volumes or repeated batches.
Manufacturers of small tanks, air receivers, and similar vessels often spend considerable time positioning parts and welding couplings, nuts, and other fittings onto a shell or dished end. This setup work and the manual labor involved increase production costs.
RSA designed this machine to make the process faster and more consistent for these manufacturers. Improved productivity and lower production effort are key advantages of the automated setup.

How the Automatic Coupling Welding Machine Works
The main assemblies are a support table and a welding head. The workpiece is placed on the table. The machine design allows the part to be positioned without the separate clamps or hold-downs normally needed to secure it.
A conical centering tip in the welding head aligns the coupling or nozzle with the torch rotation axis. The operator positions the nozzle approximately in line with the tip. A pneumatic cylinder then lowers the tip and holds the part in its correct position.
The remaining welding cycle runs automatically using parameters preset on the machine HMI. This makes operation straightforward, fast, and accurate. The machine can be configured for different welding processes, including submerged arc welding (SAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW/TIG), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG-MAG).
